I had a great breakfast this morning at Dilly Diner in the Blue Dome District of Tulsa. My hotel, which wasn’t serving breakfast this morning, suggested the diner. Located at 402 E Second Street, the Yelp reviews don’t do this place justice.

While the restaurant is relatively large, all sections weren’t open. I’m not clear whether this was because of COVID restrictions or the number of wait staff on duty. I waited about 40 minutes for a seat at the counter.

The wait was well worth it. After inquiring about their specialties, I took the recommendation of my server and had the chicken and waffles. I wasn’t sold on the description, “Deep fried chicken breast on a Belgian waffle served with pepper honey butter and sriracha honey. I had difficulty imagining how one could improve on maple syrup with chicken & waffles. My skepticism was quickly and convincingly countered. The sweetness and spiciness of both condiments proved effective compliments to the chicken and the waffle. One bite of all components provided sweet, salt, savory and heat! The portion size and tour de force of flavors have kept me from needing to eat anything else for 4.5 hours.

I will be in Tulsa for two more mornings, so I’m hoping I’ll have a chance to get back to Dilly Diner for at least one more meal before heading to Muskogee on Tuesday.
